Sign of the Kiwi

This arts and Crafts style 'resthouse' was designed by Samuel Hurst Seager for Harry Ell's Summit Road Scheme. It is a category 1 Historic Place. Following earthquake damage it is expected that repair and strengthening work began in 2015, saw the facility re-opened in time for the anniversary of the quakes in 2017.

In the same month, a wildfire raged through farmland on this part of the hills, the Sign of the Kiwi narrowly escaping damage.
