55 High Street, Otakeho-Makaka, South Taranaki
One of the country’s most impressive concrete structures, the Hawera water tower was built in 1913 to provide water pressure and sufficient water for fire fighting on the flat plain where the town is built. It's height, 54 metres (168 feet), is such that it has a light on top to warn planes. Access to the water tower is obtained from the Information Centre, which is located right beside the water tower on High Street.
