598 Niagara-Waikawa Road, Niagara-Waikawa, Southland
A small settlement which has developed from the whaling station of the mid 1880s. The former Anglican church houses an Information Centre and the old schoolhouse a local museum.
The Museum tells the historical story of the area from the early whalers, goldmining, fishing, sawmilling and stone quarrying to present day farming. The former St Mary's Anglican church is now part of the museum. Check the hours, Sundays only in winter.
