Alan MacDiarmid Building

Exhaust stacks play a part in the design of the Alan MacDiarmid building at Victoria University. They are from from chemical fume cupboards. Designed by Jasmax and completed in 2010 the building successfully filled a gap in the campus lineup. For an appraisal see architecturenz 4 2010. The building is now obscured by the Gateway Building (Te Toki a Rata) housing the biological sciences designed by Warren and Mahoney.
The MacDiarmid Institute, named for Nobel prize winner Alan MacDiarmid, carries out research in Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology.
