Sailing undoubtedly qualifies as part of New Zealand's culture. And while people sail in harbours, lakes and estuaries throughout the country, for many sailing is synonymous with the America's Cup for which New Zealand first challenged in 1986-7 and first won in 1995.

The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron is the prestigious yacht club behind New Zealand's America's Cup challenges (and defences) and for the present, the Cup is stored here.
