On the south eastern tip of windswept Moa Point is Wahine Memorial Park, as this is where the TEV Wahine ferry began to get into trouble before she was wrecked off nearby Barrett Reef on the 10th of April 1968.
The storm that challenged then wrecked the ferry and caused devastation across the country was named Cyclone Giselle but was later dubbed the 'Wahine Storm'. Here you will find one of her propellers, the foremast having found a home at Korohiwa Bay on the other side of the Harbour where the survivors washed up, and other parts are sited at Churchill Park and Frank Kitts Park.

On a very occasional day this can be a calm pretty place to visit, and it is very close to the Ataturk Memorial on the hill above.
