Roxburgh Dam

The Roxburgh Dam is a concrete, gravity dam, containing around half a million cubic metres of concrete. Penstocks 50 m long feed 8 40 MW(e) turbogenerators generators.in this the first hydro station on the Clutha river. It was commissioned in 1956. Jewish refugee Frederick Newman was the chief architect in the Hydro Design Office of the Ministry of Works. LLTM p72 Roxburgh is at one end of the Clutha Gold Cycling Trail.
