Much was lost at Lowburn with the formation of Lake Dunstan including the bridge, the hall and church, the camping ground and the historic Welcome Home Hotel. The new Lowburn lake-shore comprises an inlet which is a boat harbour with a peninsula that houses floating jetties, public toilets, parking areas, a campground and a boat ramp. This was once the site of the world's largest gold dredge. Two historic structures nearby are recognised by Heritage NZ, the Werner Dairy and the Partridge Farm Buildings.
