Mavora Lakes - Nen Hithoel

The Mavora Lakes are signposted on the Lumsden - Te Anau Road (unsealed road once you leave the highway). Set in tussock and native bush, they attract fishers, trampers and campers - and lots of sandflies. Make sure you take some insect repellent! North Mavora provided the location for the lake, Nen Hithoel, where the Fellowship rested around a campfire before Frodo and Sam crossed the lake to travel to Mordor.
