Te Araroa Trail, Whangarei Heads, Whangarei
The road to Bream Head is along popular and beautiful Ocean Beach, which in the summer is patrolled by the Whangarei Heads Surf Lifesaving Club.
Te Whara Track leads to Bream Head from the gun emplacement on the southern side of the heads, which can be accessed by driving through Taurikura Bay, to the carpark at Urquarts Bay. The track passes Smugglers Beach and Busby Head, then stays high and beautiful Peach Cove Beach is best accessed by water, but a rougherthree hour track does take you down there.
Upon the head, the WW2 Radar Station and Gun Emplacement is of strategic and historical interest,
Looking north, you will see Mauitaha and Moturaka, Guano and Tarakanahi Islands.
