Frenchman’s Gully - Te Manunui Rock Art Site

To get to this Historic Places Trust site, turn off State Highway 1 south of Pareora onto the Pareora River Road, then left onto Craigmore Valley Road, then left again on to Frenchman’s Gully Road. Early Maori found the smooth walls of limestone an excellent canvas. The name 'Te Manunui', means the big bird, which is probably a reference to a picture of the massive, now extinct, Haast's Eagle.
There is an interpretation panel.
