Intake Track, Kelceys Bush-Norton Reserve, Waimate
Kelceys Bush is one of the few original remaining areas of bush left after the 1878 eight-day bush fire. It is a lovely native bush area, suitable for picnics and outings, and a variety of walks.
The road end features a series of carparks and an authentic old bush shelter. Pleasant walks head into the hills from here. It is a popular area with hunters, but not all of the reserve is fenced so they must take care they don't cross onto private land.
The original people of this area, beside the Kelceys, were the Atwill Family, and a scout camp and a small farm-based campground named Atwill are at the bottom of the hill on Mill Road.
