Taitua Arboretum

Waikato Gardens

Taitua - literal translation from Maori 'furthest' and Aboretum - literal translation from Latin 'collection of trees' This attraction literally and technically fits the bill being on the western outskirts of Hamilton, past Frankton on Highway 23, and it is chock full of trees. Wonderful ones. Twenty hectares of great big mature New Zealand natives and exotics laced with beautifully kept walking tracks all courtesy of the Hamilton City Council. Splendid opportunities for walking, jogging and picnicking, though it is too sedate for bicycles and the dog must be kept on a lead. Also popular with wedding parties particularly in the Autumn.
