The Point - Ngaruawahia

At the confluence of the Waikato and Waipa Rivers, Ngaruawahia’s “Point” has a number of historic structures and sites, including a memorial to the first Maori King, Potatau. The points of historic interest are well signposted and linked by a walkway. One feature is a gun turret from the Gun boat Pioneer which was used to carry troops upriver in the invasion of the Waikato in 1863-64. The Pioneer was specially built for the NZ Government.
