Broken Hills walking tracks, Hikuai, Thames-Coromandel
An historic goldmining area which was revived for a short time in the new millenium to provide education, tours and a bit of gold, but has now closed down again.
The Department of Conservation owns the land here, and the way in is via a car park where the road ends at an unsafe bridge. From here there are a number of bush walks within this former goldfield and information to be gained along the way.
Broken Hills mine originally kicked off in the 1860s, part of the rush of the day,
Maps are available from the Department of Conservation (DOC).
