Motueka Wharf and Quay

Tasman Walks

A Wharf and a Quay in an estuary environment. Much used during the region's early days, from 1856 to 1906. There was even a wharf manager and a telegraph office at one stage. Now these days are over and this is a pleasant walk along sanddunes with a variety of views across Tasman Bay depending on the tides. A shipwreck, the Janie Seddon, lies in surprising elegance beside the now disused wharf. Other than the war memorial, and an information station (which is a little hard to read because of it's artistic angles) the adornments of the Quay are trampolines and outdoor settings from the neighbouring baches. A smattering of artists and rental accommodation are along here.

Past the Saltwater Baths, Port Motueka survives at the far end of the road and Talleys Fisheries are here. In the western direction are the Motueka Golf Course, and Motueka Sandspit. More information about the early days of the Region is at the Motueka Museum.
