Mapua Wharf

Mapua is a small coastal town sitting at the entrance to the Waimea Estuary. Clustered around the wharf in buildings which once housed pack houses and a fish processing plant you can now find galleries, craft shops a fish and chip shop and an ice cream shop. Smoked local fish are a specialty at the best known restaurant, the Smokehouse Café. Flax Restaurant is another which comes highly recommended. Craft beer is produced at the Golden Bear which is also a highly recommended restaurant and an occasional live music venue.
