67 Main Road, Hinuera-Tirau, South Waikato
South Waikato Information Centres
A small pleasant Waikato town at the intersection of three state highways with an Isite in the shape of a big dog.
Since its use to build the big dog, corrugated-iron art has become a Tirau specialty, the corrugated Iron Dog Bog, spawning other corrugated creations, teetering bravely between sculpture and kitsch but undeniably original.
A natural stopping place on the state highway, Tirau's wide corner slows the traveller down and they may well ask, is there anything to eat here?
There sure is and in true Kiwiana style, there was an eatery called Bugger, but its a bugger its no longer there. The Baker is a very popular takeaway cafe stop in Tirau, there are plenty of other eateries.
