Lake Rotorangi - Patea Dam

South Taranaki Walks

Lake Rotorangi is formed by an 80m high dam on the Patea River and stores water for power generation. The shoreline has been cleared for recreational use. Ramps are provided for boat launching. There is camping at the south end and a 40 min (1.5km) walk which passes over the dam and through the bush. Trustpower now owns the 31 Mw(e) hydro power station which is based on a high compacted earth filled dam. constructed in the early 1980s.
