Tarawera Falls

From the end of the forestry road it is a delightful 15 minute walk through the bush alongside the Tarawera River to where these impressive falls emerge from the rock face.
Buy a permit ($5 per car) and get directions at the Kawarau Visitor Centre. The route through the commercial forest to reach the start of the walk includes 20km of unsealed road. You can walk on to Lake Tarawera (2 hours). There is a rock climbing route at the falls.
