Omaha Beach

This Omaha Beach is not is located along the coastline of Normandy nor does it have military associations. Auckland's Omaha is an enclave of trendy up-market beach dwellings next to a beautiful long safe sandy beach. (Access to Omaha is over a causeway across the Whangateau Harbour.) Landscaping between the suburban housing and the beach adds to the 'developed' feel but fails to detract from the beach itself. Matakana's growth as a weekend mecca for well off Aucklanders has undoubtedly benefited from it being the shopping place for Omaha residents and visitors.
