Le Cafe Telephonique, Taihape

A classy place to dine in Gumboot Town. Taihape being the natural stopping place for all travellers on State Highway One's central stretch, the town does cater for all. Those interested in French cuisine, a slightly quieter pace and a genuine break from the road ought to look east on Huia Street for this unique eatery. A passionate Francophile, Fran, upgraded her 20 year old'Cafe Exchange' (housed in Turangi's former telephone exchange) five years ago and hasn't stopped growing vegetables and herbs and baking up a veritable French storm since. There is, however, a hint Le Cafe Telephonique may be on the market, so NZPlaces recommends getting in soon for the French experience.
