Blue Pools Walk

An easy (wheel-chair-friendly) walk to a lookout. Thirty mins return. The walk is signposted 8 km from Makarora. A path wide and gentle enough to take a wheelchair leads through silver beech to the fun of crossing the Makarora River on a swaying swing bridge. Once over the bridge it is only a few metres on a boardwalk to a look-out over the clear, icy turquoise pool at the foot of the Blue River gorge.

If you want to stay long enough to enjoy the beauty and catch sight of trout feeding in the pools, make sure you have insect repellent. Sandflies abound!
