Albert Town is a scenic historic town just upstream from where the Clutha River enters Lake Wanaka eight minutes by car from Wanaka township via State Highways 84 and 6. It is a growing residential subdivision with newcomers taking advantage of it's beauty and lifestyle opportunities. A classic kiwi campground occupies the spot on the other side of the bridge. The attraction here for visitors is a wonderful easy riverside walk from the bridge to the lake outlet. Easy and attractive for walkers, the walk takes about one hour each way. Mountain bikers may continue towards Wanaka on the lakefront. The section of the river is also graded 1-2 for kayakers who may take less than an hour downstream and more back up. This part of the Clutha has an international reputation for outstanding fishing. See the guide for details and for other kayaking and mountain biking trips in the vicinity.
