Blue Rata Scenic Reserve

Picnic, fish and swim at this scenic reserve which has been established as a refuge for the "Stony River Blue Rata"; the terrestial form of the common northern rata. This is the best remaining stand outside the Egmont National Park. A two minute walk takes you to a blue rata tree, so named because of the purply blue colour of their wood. The track continues on to the Stony River, another five minutes.
