294 Limeworks Loop Road, Te Pahu, Other
The spirit of the crazy fame of the Cardrona Bra Fence has rubbed off here in Limeworks Loop Road, Te Pahu, in the form of a long line of worn out scrubbers.
Underscored in summer with daisies, resting upon a backdrop of quiet fields and flanked by brooding mountains, the famed fence is tended to by Laird McGillicuddy Graeme Cairns; politician, musician and local character.
Don't hang your own toothbrush though! This is a work of contemporary art, and the installations are done with planning and style by the artist. All you have to do is drop your old (or new) stick in the bucket provided. It has been recorded that brushes upon the wire have been donated by Prime Minister Helen Clark, and comedians Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement,.
This sculptural gimmick might seem like it is in the middle of nowhere but actually, a surprising amount of traffic traverses this country lane, enroute to the wild mountains of Pirongia, which can be accessed two kilometres up the road at Kaniwahaniwha Reserve. The reserve has wonderful limestone caves for exploration and a long walk amongst the Nikau Palms, each of which are good half-day activities.
