69 Tuhoe Street, Taneatua-Kererutahi, Other
Village of Tuhoe, children of the mist, and home of their resident artist and activist Tame Iti.
The new but already iconic mural of local kuia (grandmother) Hokimoana Tawa is by Iti and fellow artist Owen Dippie, Maori Television followed the artistic process.
This is where Te Uru Taumata is sited, the first of the landmark eco community buildings Tuhoe have been constructing since their settlement of grievances with the Crown in 2013. Other services are getting on board with the Tuhoe way of doing things with a new somewhat Maori-branded Fire Engine deployed here in Taneatua, and an eco-roading pilot project running through Te Urewera.
