The Wind Wand and the Coastal Walkway

Other Walks

TARANAKI TASTER TOUR

This dancing sculpture known as the Wind Wand gives posthumous expression to the experiments of versatile artist Len Lye. It is now a New Plymouth icon.

The splendidcoastal walkway extends in both directions from here, having a length of over 12km. A stroll to the east will take you to Fitzroy Beach, while heading in the other direction will take you to the Todd Energy Aquatic Centre and the safe swimming beach within the harbour at Ngamotu and to Paritutu Rock. The development resulted from a plan to turn the city towards the sea.

Another sculpture on the Walkway is Light on the Land by Howard Tuffery.
