60 Fairfax Street, Murchison-Springs Junction, Other
To get a feel for this relatively isolated community you can do worse than visit its old time museum. The 1911 Post Office is now home to a historical collection about the Murchison District.
Figuring prominently in the displays are stories giving a local perspective on earthquakes which scarred the region in 1929 and 1968. Of the 17 people who died in 1929, 14 were killed by landslides, and 2 in coal mine collapses.
Other themes explored are the industries which sustained the locality, goldmining and sawmilling.
