Main Road Shops Nathaniels Second Hand Books and Palliser Hotel

There is a lament heard throughout New Zealand about the demise of corner shops, and there is an antidote at Main Road Wainuiomata.

Just south of the town centre is a roundabout surrounded by an eclectic but classic set of shops, half thriving, half surviving.

Wonderland Records is a real thing and it is here amongst a real live dairy/icecream parlour, a chocka second hand bookstore, a fish and chippie, a mechanic, a few other abandoned retail premises that are still cool to look at, and the Palliser Hotel. Formerly named the Empire and not a small pub, the Palliser is just around the corner in Moores Valley Road. They play live music of all sorts.
