Te Rauparaha Memorial and Jubilee Monument

In what might seem an odd juxtaposition, a monument celebrating the the arrival of the Anglican Mission in the Kapiti/Horowhenua region sits alongside a bust of the warrior Te Rauparaha. The bust had been carved at the instigation of Te Rauparaha's son, Tamihana Te Rauparaha, following his father's death. Although Te Rauparaha did not become a Christian he had encouraged Christianity and the building of the Rangiatea Church in whose graveyard he was initially buried. This is a category one Historic Place.
