Tokatoka the Plug of a Volcano

A 20-minute walk climbing a volcano plug. results in expansive views. The signposted entrance to the walking track is 1 km along Tokatoka Road. In the pioneer days, the river pilot lived at the base of Tokatoka and would climb the peak to watch for sailing ships in the harbour to the south. There are a few climbs for rockclimbers.
