1963 State Highway 1, Kaiwaka, Kaipara
Proud and honest town of the Kaipara.
A stalwart of business here is the rural clothing outfitters, Kaiwaka.
On the boutique side, there is a cheese shop which also has imported Dutch goods.
Other than that, a lovely timber church on a rise named St Paul's, a good old Memorial Hall in tidy nick, and a super original and friendly Four Square Store. So hearty and healthy is this junction town that it is hard to believe the population numbers about 600.
For those who choose to stay over (maybe at the Furlongs Hotel) there is a surprise when the sun goes down. The town is strung with lights, formed into sculptures, one is shaped like a windmill, another is a sailing ship.
