630 Napenape Road, Hurunui Mouth-Gore Bay, Hurunui
Nape Nape is a small reserve on the coast near Cheviot reached via 18kms of narrow shingle road. The reserve fronts on to a wild beach of interest to fishermen, who sometimes catch red gurnard or the less common Waewae or rough skate.
Scrambling on the limestone formations can be a challenge - a site for fossils.
Maori were here in pre-european times, archaeology has been conducted here as a result.
The camping area here has been closed because of the landslide risk, but you can still take a walk on an old track and get some good views.
Dianne McCormick has taken some excellent photos, has anyone else? NZPlaces would welcome a photo submission of Napenape.
