St Annes Lagoon - Mata Kopae

This carefully tended reserve is a wildlife sanctuary and picnic area administered by the Hurunui District Council. Sit at the picnic tables or under a tree and appreciate the birds.

In 2017, the lagoon dried up completely, securing it's title as an ephemeral lake. Locals moved eels to the river before they died. Subsequent rainfall has brought the waterway back to life.
