1 Tainui Street, Cobden-Omoto, Grey
The Left Bank Art Gallery, West Coast Regional Gallery, is housed in an historic building built in 1924 – the former Bank of New Zealand. The main gallery and vault spaces display regular exhibits of contemporary New Zealand paintings, prints, photography, sculpture and crafts with an emphasis on local content. They sometimes have installations outdoors and in the small reserve across the road.
An expanding national collection of pounamu (New Zealand jade or greenstone) is a major feature of this gallery as well as work by artsts with local connections such as Yvonne Rust and Toss Woollaston. The Gallery is next to the Grey River in a former Bank of New Zealand building, stating that the reason for it's name is more about the position on the south side of the river than it's home in an abandoned bank.
