167 McDonald Road, Lee Stream-Outram, Dunedin City
If early Otago settler Francis McDiarmid could see his 1866 manor house "The Poplars" now, he would likely be happy that it had grown into itself.
Nestled beneath snowy foothills, surrounded by huge healthy hedges, with access from a quiet and narrow country lane, the picture is olde worlde and reminiscent of classic rural domestic scenes of the United Kingdom.
But this is Woodside, Taieri, and though it has changed hands, the Scottish Baronial manor house is still holding it's own.
Entrance through decorative gates leads to a sweeping circular driveway, around casual lawns, the bright brick manor is set back, adorned with twin chimnies, dormer windows jutting out beneath the slate roof, stables and secondary buildings amongst mature woods decorating the backdrop.
Not far from here are is the entrance to the scenic (on a good day) Woodside Glen and Maungataua walks.
