51 Union Street, Tokoiti, Clutha
The collection of the Tokomairiro Historical Society Museum & Information Centre is housed in the Art Deco former Post Office.
Some of the wreckage of the Marguerite Mirabaud is at the museum as the ship was wrecked (in 1907) on Akatore Beach, now known as Chrystalls Beach, not far from Milton.
Now a service centre with a population of about 2,000, Milton was home to several potteries before the first World War. Examples from various stages of production are on display in the museum. The fluctuating fortunes of the 120 year old Woolen Mill here, are at present steady, with locals employed here processing wool under the brand 'Quality Yarns' for the owners, Ashford. An elegant Town Hall and a wide range of community services complete the picture of a still thriving Otago country town. The Pottery Works is long gone.
