Benhar and Benhar Pottery

Benhar Pottery, was one of New Zealand's earliest and most important commercial potteries. Benhar produced pottery from the 1890's until the 1970's. The village was established in the 1880's.to provide workers for the brick and pipe manufacturing company, McSkimming's Industries, Among the houses at Benhar is Lesmahagow, built in 1914.by Peter McSkimming, founder of McSkimming's Industries. Dunedin artists Laurence Baird and Rachel Taylor bought the former McSkimmings brick factory in December 2013, moving into its adjacent offices as living space.
