A new social heart has been constructed at the busy end of Christchurch's Cashel Mall, the Riverside Market. A 3500sqm building includes mezanine floors, several adjoining laneways and three other buildings, with a planned tenancy of about 90 retailers.
The complex is located at the Oxford Terrace end of Cashel Street, near the Bridge of Remembrance, over the road from the precinct known in pre-earthquake days as 'The Strip', which had gradually but surely established itself as an entertainment area. Tthe main building is filled with artisan and organic food and produce providers, ttrading seven days a week. Upstairs are five rooftop restaurants.
Friendship Park is on the riverside across the road and other river-scaping has taken place on Oxford Terrace. The developers hope that customers will walk through the complex all the way to stalwart retailer Ballantynes.
