Margaret Mahy Playground

Christchurch City Community Halls

Children's author Margaret Mahy has provided the inspiration for this central city playground. It is an anchor project in the redevelopment of the city's eastern frame and incorporates ideas generated by a children's competition with over 300 entries. Among the facilities are a 10-metre high climbing tower, double flying fox and a 4-metre wide slide. Margaret Mahy died in 2012 at the age of 76. The park also honours author, feminist and activist Elsie Lock who lived nearby.
