Karamea

This small farming community is surrounded by the sea and the Kahurangi National Park. If you are a tramper wanting transport to get to Karamea or to get to or from the Heaphy or Wangapeka tracks, visit theKaramea Information web site. These walks take from three to five days and finish in Golden Bay and Nelson. Other places to visit are the Nikau Walk and the Oparara Basin.

There is a small museum run on a voluntary basis where you will find 'an absorbing collection of photographs and exhibits on sawmilling, dairying, gold mining, flax milling and shipping.'
