859 Great North Road, Western Springs, Western Springs, Auckland
Also known as Waiorea.
Western Springs is a wildlife sanctuary surrounding a natural spring-fed lake, one of Aucklands early water supplies. The park is surrounded by a cluster of major nearby attractions including the Auckland Zoo, Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT), the Chamberlain Park Golf Course and the Western Springs stadium..
This is a large popular central park with a lake in the middle.
Enjoy a walk around the park or lake or find a spot for a picnic.
There are plenty of opportunities to view birds up close, including ducks, geese and pukeko. Please enjoy the bird life, but do not feed them. Feeding them unsuitable food, like bread, can cause poor nutrition and spread disease. It artificially increases the size of the population and leads to overcrowding, and unnatural and aggressive behaviour.
Access from the car park at the entrance to the zoo off Motions Road or the car park on Stadium Road. Pedestrians can also access from Great North, Motions, Stadium and West View roads.
Toilets and changing rooms, car park, picnic tables and seating, and drinking fountains are inside the park.
Follow the 1.75km Western Springs Path around the park.
Dog exercise: We do not currently have dog exercise area information for this park. Please check for signage at the park.
