Matheson's Bay is a pleasant tree-lined cove that's safe for families. It has a genteel feel and was once the choice of holiday destinations for Auckland's more well heeled families. Therefore the quality of holiday homes is maybe a notch above some other bays. There is a nicely placed island in the middle of the cove which is just the right distance to be a challenge for young swimmers, but watch the rocks which are not visible at high tide.
