6 Henderson Valley Road, Henderson, Auckland
Calling itself an eco-city, Waitakere, a grouping of about 170,000 people, choose to centre itself on Henderson. A new building next to a rail and bus interchange designed by Architectus Auckland in association with Athfield Architects provided "sprawling Waitakere City with a civic heart". In keeping with the eco-city concept the building has a 'green' roof. The building is intended to be a best practice model of sustainable development. There is also a new public library and a Japanese garden. Subsequent amalgamation of the separate Auckland cities has removed the motivation for the development but left a fine set of buildings.
