Highbank Power Station - Rangitata Diversion

Fed by the 67km long Rangitata Diversion the Highbank hydro power station operates when water is not required for irrigation. The irrigation race which diverts water from the Rangitata and finishes on the Rakaia was completed in 1945. It was the first major river diversion in New Zealand.
