Mt Sunday - Edoras

LORD OF THE RINGS JOURNEY TO EDORAS FROM CHRISTCHURCH

Edoras, the capital of Rohan, was located on Mt Potts Station in the Rangitata Valley. Nothing remains of the impressive set which took six months to build. Built into a 400m high rock face and surrounded by snow-covered mountains, the Golden Hall of King Theoden and the outbuildings of Edoras provide some of the most splendid and memorable images of the second film, The Two Towers. It's well worth driving across the Canterbury Plains to Methven. From there head to Lake Clearwater and up the Rangitata Valley for the dramatic alpine scenery shown in the film.
