160 Main Street, Methven, Ashburton
Between 1871 and 1976 Methven was the terminus of a branch railway from Rakaia. During the twentieth the town declined. In 1973 Mt Hutt skifield was developed and Methven was rose to it's new purpose. The small foothills town is now a base for a wide range of adventure activities as well as fishing, walking and golf. There is something happening most months of the year. See the Amazing Spaces Website. The i-site, which serves as pick-up point for some tours, is within the Methven Heritage Centre. The Heritage Displays here are about the founding of the district and the skifield, and includes a war memorial. There is a cute display about the work of a talented dog which belonged to the local policeman.
