48 Ridgway Street, Aukaki Stream-Wanganui, Wanganui
A popular and spacious heritage venue for wholesome food starting with breakfasts. Through the continued existence of the Rutland Arms we are reminded that Wanganui was a garrison town from 1846 to 1870, the period during which the British Regiments were stationed in Wanganui. The Rutland stockade and blockhouse was built in 1849. Those turbulent times were the start point of an interesting history for this hotel which can be read on the website below. Most recently saved from demolition in the 1990s it has a more secure future now with a total internal refit including accommodation upstairs.
