The Information Centre will advise you on accommodation, transport, adventure companies, and can provide up-to-date costs. Motueka is a small, working town at the mouth of the Motueka River, which flows into Tasman Bay. The people of the area are involved in fishing, growing apples, berries, kiwifruit, grapes and hops, crafts, wine tasting, adventure and eco-tourism. The relaxed lifestyle, excellent climate, beautiful beaches, picnic spots and very popular walks have always attracted New Zealand holidaymakers to the area, especially at the end of December and throughout January when the population soars. If you want to be in the swim with the locals, you will need to book accommodation in advance. Outside those months, there are some vacancies and the fastest way to find accommodation is through the Information Centre. There are motels, campsites, backpackers' lodges and bed 'n breakfasts to cater for all budgets in the town and surrounding area. In Motueka look out for the hop kilns, now superseded , but still a part of the landscape.
